Announcing a brand new series about Choice Theory psychology. Seven short books are now available on a range of popular topics. The books are intended for the general public though the contents will also be of special interest to counsellors and other support services.
A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Addictions – by Mike Rice

The Choice Theory approach to addictive behavior does not rely on external controlling methods to make someone do something they don’t want to do. Instead, the Choice Theory approach is discovering what and how the client really would want his/her life to be; identifying the important people in their life; evaluating the client’s choices and how those choices either helped or harmed their relationships; allowing them the freedom and respect to make their own decisions on how to improve their life; and creating a plan on how to get what they want in their life. Clients are more inclined to improve their life when it is their own idea, feel respected, and don’t feel threatened or coerced to do something they don’t want to do.

Mike Rice is a licensed therapist and has been in private practice since 1998 in Mesa, Arizona. His specialty has been in drug and alcohol abuse, couples counseling, depression, and several other emotional issues. He became certified in Reality Therapy and Choice Theory in 2008.
In addition to his contribution to the series of Choice Theory in Action books, he has written seven other books utilizing the concepts of Choice Theory on the topics of substance abuse, relationships, and aging. He has conducted several workshops throughout the United States as well as Columbia, South America and the Arizona Psychological Association.

A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Anger – by Brian Lennon

In this book you will find an approach to anger that recognises both the valid role it can play in human life and the unwelcome effects when anger becomes rage. The author is careful to acknowledge the very real causes of anger and prefers not to treat anger simply as a bad habit.
Using ideas from Choice Theory psychology the author helps readers explore their own anger, its different forms and causes, its expression and effects. He offers a tried and tested method for the reader to take charge of the remarkably short space of time between the frustration and the outburst, between what the author calls the spark and the flame!

A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Happiness– by Carleen Glasser

This book is about how to make yourself happy. The meaning of happiness is uniquely examined from a Choice Theory perspective. In this book, the author shares the personal stories of twenty, very different people, who have written about what happiness means to them and why they are happy.
The author explains how different aspects of Dr.William Glasser’s Choice Theory are demonstrated in every story. This reflection is followed by a Choice Theory Take Away where the author gives the readers information about how to immediately use these Choice Theory ideas in their own lives.

A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Parenting – by Nancy Buck, Ph.D.

Parenting is the most important, terrifying and rewarding job you’ll ever have. For better or worse, most of us learn how to do this job from our parents. But what if the example your parents set is not something you want to follow?
In A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Parenting, international child expert Dr. Nancy Buck offers readers a new and far more effective way to parent while maintaining a loving relationship with their sons and daughters. Parents and children have different agendas, children push for freedom while parents pull for safety. This push-pull relationship between parents and children starts at birth, and continues throughout childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. Rather than relying on the typical controlling, punishing, and relationship-destroying attempts to dominate children, Choice Theory psychology teaches you to follow the instruction manual you and your offspring are born with. The result is happy, responsible children who want to maintain loving relationships with their parents. Great parents who follow this instruction manual raise great children.

Fresh, funny and unafraid, Nancy S. Buck, Ph.D. tackles the tough topics facing all families today. She is a developmental psychologist, and expert in children’s motivation and behavior, and parenting coach.

A Choice Theory Psychology Guide to Stress – by Brian Lennon

This book offers a fresh approach to stress and focuses on what you can do for yourself to manage this condition. The author views stress as a clear signal that things are not going well in a person’s life. Consequently the emphasis is on heeding the signal and investigating the possible causes of the stress, instead of simply addressing the symptoms.
In Choice Theory psychology, stress is not a weakness nor an illness. In fact, it is a vital piece of feedback about how we are running our lives. Stress can become a problem threatening our health and happiness but it is the underlying causes that need to be tackled if we are to manage our stress effectively.
The book gives a brief explanation of Choice Theory itself and how it applies to stress. This is followed by ideas on possible causes and ways of dealing with these. There are chapters on general skills such as time-management, decisions and plans.
